Twitter continues to be a bit of a mystery for some people, especially when it comes to advertising. So we thought we would break down three options for twitter advertising and provide some of our recommendations:

Promoted Tweets

Promoted tweets allow you the opportunity to get a bit more mileage out of your best tweets. Twitter will open your tweet up to thousands more who do not follow you to show them what great content you’re offering and introduce you to a new set of eyes who would likely be interested in what you have to say. Consider your posts that have received the most engagement. This is a great clue as to what you may want to pull out for a bit of promotion.

You can target your promoted tweets in three different ways: by keyword, by television programs and by interest. In addition, you will also be asked if you want to further target by location and gender. You will have the option of choosing the specific tweets you would like to promote, or twitter will choose for you by picking out your top five most engaging tweets.

Like most online advertising, you set the budget. However, consider what twitter’s recommended bid amount is and come as close to that as you possibly can to ensure maximum exposure.

Promoted Accounts

If you are new to building your twitter profile, you might want to consider promoting your account to build your list of followers. Promoted accounts are different from promoted tweets. Instead of pulling out specific tweets, twitter offers a generic suggestion to similar twitter users that based on  similarities between you and others in their network, they may also find your page interesting too. This is a great way to build targeted followers.

The one caveat to promoted accounts is that because your sidebar ad isn’t compatible with mobile, your ad will not be seen on a mobile device. Instead, twitter will include you into mobile with a designated tweet in a users twitter feed, similar to the one below.

Like promoted tweets, you would have the ability to target your promoted account ad. The cost usually breaks down to about $2-3/follower. So, be selective in the way you targeted your ad or it will quickly get expensive!

Lead Generation Cards

If your social strategy involves lead generation and you want to learn how twitter can help you grow your database, twitter cards are definitely for you. Available to current twitter advertisers, lead generation cards are simply a landing page embedded into your tweet. To set it up, be sure your twitter ads account is complete, click on creatives and drop down to cards. Follow instructions to set up your designed card and your compelling offer.

Make sure your CRM program is set-up and prepared to begin collecting your new leads. You may also choose to export your new twitter leads into a .CSV file.
